If you plan to start a Master’s in Germany in the summer semester 2027 or later, and your degree is in engineering, commerce, or business, the APS certificate now involves one more step: the dMAT.
APS India describes the dMAT as a standardised academic aptitude test for Master’s applicants, added to the APS documentation. The test is run by g.a.s.t. (Gesellschaft für Akademische Studienvorbereitung und Testentwicklung e.V.). APS India still verifies your documents. The dMAT result will appear on your APS certificate, but it does not replace document verification.
Who has to take it
It applies from the summer semester 2027 intake onwards to applicants whose previous degree is in one of these fields:
- Engineering
- Commerce, accounting, finance, or economics
- Business or management
APS India publishes an official list of affected fields. Check your exact degree title against it rather than going by the broad field name.
Who is exempt
You do not need the dMAT if, before 29 June 2026, you had either completed your APS online registration or shipped your complete APS documents.
Key dates for the first test
| Step | Date |
|---|---|
| Registration opened | 29 June 2026 |
| Registration closed | 15 September 2026 |
| Test date | 26 September 2026 |
| Certificates available | 12 October 2026 |
The fee is €150, paid when you register. Test centres are in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Kolkata, Mananthavady, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Pune.
When we checked on 24 September 2026, APS India’s page did not list a later test date. If you missed the first registration window, watch the APS India dMAT page and the g.a.s.t. registration portal for the next one. Then plan your university deadlines around the date your certificate would arrive.
What to do now
- Check whether your APS registration or document shipment happened before 29 June 2026.
- If not, compare your degree title with the affected-fields list.
- If it is listed, note the next test date as soon as it is published. Allow time for the certificate before your APS certificate and university applications.
Admission decisions stay with each university. For the wider picture, including degree fit, APS, uni-assist, and visa evidence, read our Master’s in Germany checklist. If you are unsure whether the dMAT applies to you, contact SGC with your degree title and your planned intake.
